Firefox has in it’s new version updated an old (pretty much rewritten) javascript engine called SpiderMonkey. The new version is now called TraceMonkey and it’s a lot faster than it’s previous contenders.

As the development team self states its avarage 10x faster then the old engine, and at times, it’s 20-30x the speed.

Their goal was to make JS run as native code and their are climbing towards their goal.
