When you buy a graphic card and when you are thinking of whether choosing the one with more memory or the one with the better GPU or the card with more memory. A common thought is that if you have a graphic card that have a memory capacity of 256 mb and another one with 128 mb, the first one has to be better!
This is not right in most cases since the “slow” card will not use all the memory efficient and because of that the faster card but with less memory will perform better.
If you are planning to buy a gaming laptop you have to aim for a performing graphic card and I would rather choose a good graphic card instead of a good CPU. Dual core is not necessarily needed for a computer although it definetly will increase the performance. But if you aim to buy a cheap laptop with gaming performance you have to sort out some of the expensive parts and that includes a dual core processor.
Both Visual Studio 2008 and Dotnet 3.5 will be available in the markets in a couple of weeks. Evaluations are already available at MSDN.
Among the news in Visual Studio 2008 is increased support for Windows Vista applications, which have been fairly problematic in Visual Studio 2005. Over 250 more news are also available and those includes usage of different version of Dotnet and support for webdevelopment including Ajax functionality.
A highlight in Visual Studio 2008 is the linq (Language Integrated Query). The point with this tool is to reduce the gap between objects and data and the programmers should focus on what to do with the data instead of reaching for it.
Microsoft’s goal with Visual Studio 2008 was to give both amateur programmers and professional programmers a platform for development.

Intel has during the whole year talked about their biggest technological leap in 40 years and now are the first products available. The new Penry-processor is supposed to be 50% faster in graphics but still have a smaller electricity-Consumption.
During this sunday Intel presented the new platform that had the codename Penryn and told us that 40 suppliers of servers will have their Xeon 5400 processor this fall.
This is a processor with four cores and with 45-nanometerstechnology which will reduce the electricity needed for it. The most powerful version will only take 120W and by the year ending will their laptop-version be released and that processor will only need 25W compared to earlier models that need about 35W.
In the benchmarks that have been done Intel has shown improvements in 40-60% in graphics and that is pretty much a result of the increased cache-memories. Another effect of this will be that virtual servers will be about 75% faster.
In november Intel will release twelve new Xeon 5400-processors where the clock-frequency is 2-3,2GHz and having a cache-memory of 12MB. Next month three more Xeon 5200-processors with dual cores will be released with a clock-frequency of 3,4ghz and 6MB in cache-memory. During the first quarter of the next year will the laptop versions “Core 3 Extreme” and “Core 2 Duo” be released.
The new generation of processors are made of a number of new materials that means that they can have a decent amount of more transistors on the same space as before. In a processor with four cores you can now have 840 millions of transistors compared to Intels first processor, 4004 (1971), which only had 2000 transistors.

In this article we will compare the top 4 of the biggest search eninges ordered by market share. These four engines that will be compared are:
Google
Yahoo!
MSN Live search
Ask
In this small search engine comparison we will test with a quoted string and in future comparisons we will summarize with unquoted and some other types.
Instead of testing the results on a very popular term such as “news” we will use something more odd to see the differences more brightly. We will not manually review wich results that are the best but we will try to see the major differences between the results.
Let’s start with the quoted string “20th century furniture”.
Here are the following results for the term in the search eninges we measured (Only top 5 to shorten it):

Google: 2 with the string “20th century” in domain, three of top five has exact string in the title, one of them as all all three words in title and one of them only has “furniture”.
Three of the sites uses meta tags, which could indicate that google is using the tags less then the concurents. However, since Yahoo has results that are similar and they are known to use it, google could use it as well. One result only has 15 not so strong inlinks to the whole domain while sites places later have more then five hundred links that are both related and strong. We knows it’s weird, but in this case the inlinks didn’t seem to be valued this great.
+ Domain, title
Yahoo: Three of them has exact string in title, one of them has exact string in domain and one of them has “20thcentury” in url. Has about the same results as google which proves that they are quite close in their search-engine technology.
+ Domain, title
MSN: Two of them has exact string in title. One of the sites has the whole string in the URL.
One of the titles are “Untitled document”.
Acts pretty weird when having a untitled document in top 3 which is under construction. It does look like MSN weights meta keywords and description pretty much as they are used in four of the sites.
+ Meta keywords and description
ASK: One has the exact string in title, the rest are just furniture inspirated. None of them have furniture in the URL.
Seem to use both meta keywords and description as all five top results pretty uses keywords and descriptions heavily.
+ Meta keywords and description
Top 3 in google and yahoo is exactly the same and one of these appear in the MSN results, but none of them appear anymore. One interesting result is that Google, Yahoo and MSN had one MFA(Made for adsense) site in top three, which used both meta keywords, meta description, title in URL (double times exact string and three times “20th century”) and spammed “20th century furniture” pretty much in text using bold. The spammy MFA site has a couple of good inlinks but generally don’t that much.
